Drought Rules and Regulations Imposed by EPD

- From Press Release

The Polk County Water Authority has received notification that a drought level 1 condition has been issued for Polk County and 53 other counties in North and Northwest Georgia effective September 9, 2016, and until further notice.

A Level 1 Drought Response requires public water systems to implement a public information campaign to heighten both commercial and residential customer’s awareness of water conservation, and to provide additional information on drought management by checking the State website: http://epd.georgia.gov/water - conservation. Other notices will be posted or announced across the County. This will include the PCWA public website, our social media site on Facebook, radio and press releases. Other notices may be seen at the Polk County Water Authority offices located at 1381 Rockmart Highway, Cedartown, Georgia. No time frame is mentioned in the declaration which will primarily depend on future weather events and conditions.

“We ask our customers to conserve water usage as good stewards of this important resource. Regularly check for and report leaks; report any water leak to the Authority so that we can check, advise, and repair as necessary; check for running taps and use water sparingly for your personal needs. Watering of food gardens, or new seeding, may occur at any time. General landscape watering may occur between 4 PM – 10 AM each day. Common sense and the careful use and control of water can help reduce lost water and avoid more stringent drought controls.”, said Jack Damron, the Authority’s General Manager.

The directive is issued by the State of Georgia, Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division, and will remain in effect until future notice.
