Blue grass, country music presented to Golden Agers

A group from Tallapoosa presented a program of blue grass and country music during the August meeting of the Golden Agers in Rockmart.

About 69 people gathered at First Baptist Church for the event that featured the Tallapoosa Blue Grass singers and musicians.

“They did a great job and we enjoyed it,” said one member that gave a report about the appreciati­on of those present that share a fondness for toe-tapping music.

A total of 92 people were in attendance, including Mary Sharp who was back after a long absence.

Visitors were welcomed. They include: Bob Waters, Troy Clark, Nital Clark, Nancy Sweetory, Patsy Waters, and Susan Waits.

Dan Casey opened the meeting with prayer. He asked everyone to remember those who are sick, service members, homebound, and residents of convalesce­nt homes. Others mentioned were Robbie Barnes, Evelyn Brewer, Jean Clay, Bertie Barfield, Chuck Tate and Faye Lankford.

Everyone was reminded to pray for the families of Carlton Duke, Louise Mathews and those who lost loved ones during August.

Individual­s celebratin­g birthdays were recognized: Glenda Brown, Dan Casey, Gail Coker, Gail Ferguson, Sue Harris, Joan Gibbs, Elaine Hughes, Jeanette Motes, Libby Seigler, Reba Tanner, Chuck Tate and Don Tate.

Happy anniversar­y wishes were extended to Glen and Glenda Head.

Faye Coalson and Mary Smith were recognized for decorating the tables. Gail Coker, song leader, was also commended for her talent.

No meeting is planned at the church this month. However, a picnic will be held at Taylor’s Farm. Games, fellowship and food are planned for the event, which is scheduled for Sept. 29.
