Operation Christmas Child Shoebox pinto bean fundraiser will be held from 5 p.m. until on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 in Live Oak Baptist Church fellowship hall.

The church is located at 150 Live Oak Road in Aragon behind Burton’s Store on U. S. 101.

Donations will be accepted and all proceeds will go toward shipping cost for the church shoeboxes.

The menu consists of pintos, lima beams, navy beans, cornbread, fried potatoes, slaw, onion and desserts.

A workshop for first time homebuyers will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 in the Lillian Moreland Dyar Community Center, 1040 N. Piedmont Ave. in Rockmart.

The first annual Family Fun Day and Riding Competitio­n will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at Crazy P Arena, 1021 Antioch Road, Cedartown.

Organizer Nora Cook said the event will begin at noon with gates opening at 11 a.m. In addition to riding competitio­ns, there will be a petting zoo, pony rides, concession­s and other events for all ages.

Divisions will include leadine, peewee - 6 and under, youth, 12 and under; junior, 18 and under; open, any age. There will also be pole bending, cloverleaf, barrells, texas barrells, dizzy cowboy and arena reaces.

Coosa Valley Regional Services monthly board meeting is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at the main office, 3 Riverside Industrial Parkway in Rome, Ga. This meeting is open to the public.

The annual Veterans Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at historic Van Wert Church and Cemetery, located at 100 Church St. in Van Wert near Rockmart.

The Euharlee Valley Historical Society uses re-enactors to pay tribute to the many military veterans who were laid to rest in the church cemetery. In addition to Civil War-era graves, the cemetery also is the final resting place of veterans of the first and second world wars and other conflicts.

Homecoming will be observed at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 3693 Rome Hwy., Aragon, on Sunday, Sept. 18.

The service is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Revival will follow this observance at 7 p.m. daily Sept. 1315. Pastor Rev. Dr. Sargent Nelson invites the public to attend.

All Carroll EMC offices will close early on Thursday, October 6 for our Annual Meeting. The Carrollton office will close at 3:30 p.m. and the district offices will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 6.

About 120 riders are expected to participat­e in the BRAG US Bike Route 21 ride September 16 – 18. The group should spend the night in Summervill­e; make the maiden voyage down the new Bike Route 21 to Rockmart, camp at Skydive Spaceland on Sept 17 and travel through Rockmart on Sept. 18.

The public is welcome to visit the cyclists at Skydive Spaceland on Sept. 17 and the Silver Comet Trailhead on Sept. 18.

B.A.S.I.C. “Brothers and Sisters in Christ” Community Youth Choir will have their first practice for this school year from 10 a.m. to noon September 10 at Camp Antioch.

This group usually practices twice per month and performs at local church and community events. All 5th grades through college students are welcomed. Adult “coaches” are needed to help teach singing parts (must pass a criminal background check). Rita Carter from Rockmart First Baptist is the director.

The 1976 Cedartown High School 40th class reunion is set to be held on Sept. 24, 2016 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cedartown Museum of CocaCola Memorabili­a, located at 209 Main St., Cedartown. In celebratio­n of National Public Lands Day, Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites are inviting citizens to volunteer for a variety of projects on Saturday, Sept. 26.

All across Georgia, outdoor enthusiast­s can help with projects such as trail cleanup at Tallulah Gorge and invasive plant removal at Skidaway Island.

The statewide “Your State Parks Day” is sponsored by Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, a nonprofit organizati­on dedicated to preserving and enhancing the state’s natural and historical treasures. To encourage participat­ion in the event, Friends will be paying the parking or admission fees for everyone who lends a helping hand.

Bike Ride Across Georgia. Newly opened US Bike Route 21 from Chattanoog­a to Atlanta. There will be 300 - 400 bikers that will depart Chattanoog­a on Friday. September 16, camp overnight in Summervill­e and then ride over to Skydive Spaceland on September 17 to stay overnight.

A few artists are setting up plus 3 food trucks. On September 18, they will take the Silver Comet Trail through Rockmart to Atlanta.

The fourth annual Run for Christ – 5K and 1-mile fun run-walk – will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016.

Participan­ts in the 5K run will start at 8 a.m. followed by the fun run-walk at 8:30 a.m. at Covenant Christian School.

Keep Polk Beautiful (KPB) presents Rivers Alive from 9 to 12 Saturday, Sept. 24 at Seaborn Jones Park in Rockmart.

Help clean and protect the streams in Polk County. Free Tshirts will be distribute­d to the first 150 volunteers. Breakfast will be served to the volunteers.

The 39th annual Fall Festival will be held in Downtown Cedartown from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 1, 2016.

The Kiwanis 5K begins at 8 a.m. at the Welcome Center on the Silver Comet Trail. The Shriner’s Parade starts at 10 a.m. and the Cedartown Humane Society Dog Show begins at 11 a.m. in front of the park at the corner of Main and East Ware Street.

There will be many art and craft vendors to shop with and a variety of food vendors to choose from. The local merchants will be open, as well.

The local vegetable market opened at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Peek Park in Cedartown. The market will be open from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and Friday or until the vegetables is sold.

The local Board of Elections has announced meetings in 2016 will follow this schedule: October 11, 10 a.m. November 14 and 3 p.m. December 9.

These meetings will be held in the Elections Office Conference Room, 144 W. Ave., Suite D, in Cedartown.

“Revival Fire” is the title of a presentati­on by Charles G. Garrett, which is featured on Charter Channel 181 at 9 p.m. every Sunday night. He said this is his 17th year in Polk County.
