The Polk County Board of Education is set to hold their regular session on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at the Polk County Board of Education’s central office on South College Street in Cedartown.

The Polk County Commission is set to meet in the commission meeting room at the Polk County Police Department on Sept. 12, 2016 at 5:15 p.m. for their monthly work session, followed by the commission’s regular meeting on Sept. 13, 2016 at 7 p.m.

The City of Aragon city council will meet for a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. prior to their regular meeting at 7 p.m. to allow for public comment on the millage rate being set for the year on Sept. 15, 2016. The Polk County Public Safety and Public Works committees are set to meet on Sept. 8, 2016 starting at 2 p.m. with the Public Safety committee at the Polk County Administration offices at 144 West Ave., Cedartown. The Public Works meeting will follow at 3 p.m.

The Polk County Board of Tax Assessors meets the first Tuesday of each month, at 9 a.m. located in the Polk County Administration Building-Suite F. Their coming meeting is set to be held on Oct. 4, 2016.

Want to register to vote in the coming election?
Registration forms are available at the Polk County Board of Elections office located within the county administration building at 144 West Ave., Cedartown. Those wishing to register must have on of the following: a driver’s license, social security card, passport, a firearm’s carry permit, a birth certificate or a legal document with their name and address on it to be able to register to vote.
The Board of Elections isn’t the only place to get registration forms. The public libraries in Cedartown and Rockmart, city administrative offices, recruitment offices, the county fire stations all have mail-in forms.
Go online to see if the department of driver services might have completed voter registration during license renewal time as well. Visit sos.ga.gov/myvoterpage for more information.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11:00 a.m. during the Downtown Cedartown Fall Festival, bring your dog and walk in the parade with the Cedartown Humane Society.
Parade starts at 10 a.m. (must line up at 9:30 on the corner of Marietta and Main St.) No retractable leashes. Their annual dog show will be held after the parade. Categories include: largest dog, smallest dog, cutest costume and cutest trick. Cost is $5 entry fee per category, with prizes awarded in each. All proceeds benefit The Cedartown Humane Society.
