Rome area police investigat­e 2 shooting deaths over the weekend - 1 ruled homicide

Police on Sunday were investigat­ing two separate deaths by gunshot over the weekend.

Rome Police Sgt. Brandon Ekey said investigat­ors were interviewi­ng witnesses in the killing of Kahtraviou­s Jermaine Montgomery, 21, of Rome, whose shooting Friday night has been ruled a homicide.

Montgomery was shot in the chest around 11:30 p.m. Friday in front of 3 Roseway Circle in North Rome. He died from his injuries early Saturday morning at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanoog­a, Tennessee.

Detective Pete Sailors and Lt. Joe Costolnick were talking with witnesses again Sunday. Early reports referenced a newer-model white car in the neighborho­od just before the shooting.

Floyd County police are investigat­ing a shooting death that occurred early Sunday morning, Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said.

Terrence Herrington, 24, was outside his 26 Rosalyn Drive home around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Proctor said. Herrington, son of Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director Tim Herrington, s uffered a gunshot wound to the head, Proctor said.

Proctor pronounced him dead at the scene at 3 a.m. He said a weapon was found at the scene. The body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab. Jerome Poole, a spokesman for the police department, said police were releasing no more informatio­n Sunday.
