Rome area police investigate 2 shooting deaths over the weekend - 1 ruled homicide
Police on Sunday were investigating two separate deaths by gunshot over the weekend.
Rome Police Sgt. Brandon Ekey said investigators were interviewing witnesses in the killing of Kahtravious Jermaine Montgomery, 21, of Rome, whose shooting Friday night has been ruled a homicide.
Montgomery was shot in the chest around 11:30 p.m. Friday in front of 3 Roseway Circle in North Rome. He died from his injuries early Saturday morning at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Detective Pete Sailors and Lt. Joe Costolnick were talking with witnesses again Sunday. Early reports referenced a newer-model white car in the neighborhood just before the shooting.

Floyd County police are investigating a shooting death that occurred early Sunday morning, Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said.
Terrence Herrington, 24, was outside his 26 Rosalyn Drive home around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Proctor said. Herrington, son of Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director Tim Herrington, s uffered a gunshot wound to the head, Proctor said.
Proctor pronounced him dead at the scene at 3 a.m. He said a weapon was found at the scene. The body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab. Jerome Poole, a spokesman for the police department, said police were releasing no more information Sunday.
