Polk County names their Teacher of the Year for 2016 and will send Adam Blalock to represent at the state level
Polk School District announced the Teacher of the Year as Rockmart High School's Adam Blalock during the Board of Education's November session on Nov. 1.
Blalock was named Rockmart Teacher of the Year and, along with 10 other teachers of the year from Polk School District, filled out an application and was decided on by outside voters, according to assistant superintendent Laurie Atkins.
Blalock received $500 from Shaw Hankins to use in the classroom and will go on to represent Polk School District in the statewide competition for Teacher of the Year. He also got $100 for winning Rockmart High School's Teacher of the Year award.
All of the teachers who won the award for their schools were recognized on Nov. 1, and also received a $100 check from Shaw Hankins. Those included: Rachel Graves from Cedartown High School, Dondra Robinson from Cedartown Middle, Alice Vainrib from Cherokee Elementary, Dana Hillhouse from Eastside Elementary, Michelle Tucker from Northside Elementary, Brigitte Tillery from the Polk County College and Career Academy, Lisa Owens from Rockmart Middle, Rebecca Shepard from Van Wert Elementary, Randy Cook from Westside Elementary and Genry Sanford from Young's Grove Elementary.
Tillery was also the first to ever be awarded the Teacher of the Year for the College and Career Academy.
