The annual Christmas is for Kids program sponsored by the Rockmart Police Department, is underway. Applicatio­ns will be accepted at the Rockmart Police Department November 8 through 22.

Applicants must bring a birth certificat­e and Social Security card for each child. Parents or guardians may apply for children 2 to 12 years of age.

Distributi­on of gifts will be December 21 and 22 at First Baptist Church in Rockmart.

A limited number of tickets are on sale for the upcoming Boots and Pearls event being put on by the Polk County Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Hightower Falls. Call 770-684-8760 for more informatio­n.

The Christmas Open House is coming up in downtown Cedartown on Saturday Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 as the holiday shopping season gets underway locally. Cedartown Supper Club is set to meet on the fourth of November at 6:30 p.m. at the Cedartown Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 71 Woodall Road.

Enjoy a vegetarian supper and participat­e in a lecture on healthy living. Free and for all ages. Supper clubs are every month on the second and fourth Tuesday. Each evening provides a different menu and lecture topic.

Rockmart American Legion Post 12 has announced the following:

New members (Legion and Auxiliary) are invited to attend the regular meeting and dinner at 7 p.m. each second Tuesday.

The public is invited to all you can eat spaghetti dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. The Legion Riders gather for a meeting and dinner at 7 p.m. each fourth Tuesday.

Family day will be held on Nov. 12 and the annual Legion Riders steak dinner is scheduled on December 10 with a New Year’s Eve Party scheduled on December 31. The public is invited and tickets are available at Post 12.

Live Oak Baptist Church will host the third annual Share the Love Thanksgivi­ng Meal on Wednesday, Nov. 23 starting at 4:30 p.m. at the church located at 150 Live Oak Road, Aragon. The free meal includes turkey, dressing, green beans, cranber- ry sauce, rolls and other items. Plates can also be picked up at Simply Staffing at 634 Goodyear St., Rockmart. Keep Polk Beautiful has received approximat­ely 700 gallons of fresh, donated indoor and outdoor house paint. Keep Polk Beautiful will distribute this donated paint to churches, youth and civic organizati­ons, low income families, non profit organizati­ons, etc. to improve the appearance of our neighborho­ods in Polk County. Donated paint will not be distribute­d to commercial groups or for profit projects. Celebrate Recovery continues to meet in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart, 311 E. Elm St., Monday nights with dinner at 6 p.m. A large group gathers at 7 p.m. and small share group at 8:00 p.m.

The Sit N' Stitch craft group meets each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Rockmart First United Methodist Church, 135 West Church Street, Rockmart, Ga., 30153.

All crafters are welcome to come and work on your own projects or help out with various local mission projects, as they become needed. Bring a sack lunch or just come when you want and leave as you need to.

Cedartown’s vegetable market in Peek Park is open from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and Friday or until the vegetables are sold out.

On Nov. 1, 2016, Tallatoona CAP began accepting appointmen­ts for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for Senior Households 65 and older and Homebound Households.

Appointmen­ts for the General Public will be accepted beginning Dec. 1, 2016. Appointmen­ts are provided on a first come first served basis until funds are exhausted.

Polk County residents who qualify will receive either $310.00 or $350.00 toward their heating bill (heating source).

Polk / Haralson Christian Life Center (Camp Antioch) continues fall schedule of events for adults and children. Community Youth Choir which meets on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Community Children’s Music Club and the Student Study Center on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Soup and “Savior”, a local non-profit organizati­on, meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays to provide needed items to deserving people. This includes a free meal (soup), clothing and gives other assistance. Meetings are held at Glad Tidings, located at 703 Robert L Parks Blvd in Cedartown. Donations are accepted.

“Revival Fire” is the title of a presentati­on by Charles G. Garrett, which is featured on Charter Channel 181 at 9 p.m. every Sunday night. He said this is his 17th year in Polk County.
