Polk County looking at paving list for 2017

- From Staff Reports

Polk County is putting forth a proposed list of roads they hope to surface with new asphalt in 2017, should the county commission go along with the plan.

Campbell Road from Lee's Chapel Road to Runyun Loop of about 2.39 miles, Hutto Road from Highway 278 to Highway 27 of about 2 miles, Old Atlanta Highway from the Rockmart city limits to Highway 278 of just over 3 miles, and Vinson Mountain Road from Old Atlanta Highway to the Paulding County line of 2.6 miles top the list for contract-based paving.

The in-house list includes Braswell Road from the Rockmart city limits to Braswell Mountain road, Duke Road from Chubb Town to Booger Hollow Road, Dunn Roa from Fish Creek to Lake Creek roads, Hendrix road from Hihghway 278 to Knight Road, Puckett Road from Lake Creek Road to Dunn Road, Wood Glen Road from Greenview Court to the dead end, and Wooten Road from Lee's Chapel Road to Antioch Road.

The 10.5 miles of in house paving will be matched with the 10.25 miles of contract paving for almost 21 miles total proposed by the county for 2017, much of it to be completed by the Public Works department's road crews.

This list and the subsequent cost of materials and the contract will first have to be approved by the county commission before any work could begin next spring and summer on the projects.

It also doesn't include any paving either Aragon, Cedartown or Rockmart might want to undertake in the coming year as well.
