Mrs. Doris Sears, 84, of Cave Spring, died Sunday evening, Nov. 13, 2016 in a local care facility following an extended illness.

The former Doris Walker, Mrs. Sears was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Jeff Davis County, Georgia, a daughter of the late James H. Walker and the late Ila Mae Powell Walker.

Mrs. Sears had made her home in Cave Spring since 1962, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring, where she was also a member of the Adult Bible Class, the WMU, and had also taught Sunday School in the Deaf Department for a number of years.

She was also a house parent at Georgia School for the Deaf, having retired in 1995.

Mrs. Sears was married to Thomas Watson Sears on Sept. 12, 1951, and was preceded in death by him Nov. 21, 1991.

Mrs. Sears’ sister, Mrs. Diane W. Day of Hazelhurst, passed away recently.

Survivors include her son, Gary Watson of Cave Spring, and five nieces, Mrs. Sherri Goff, Mrs. Patricia Thomas, Mrs. Cynthia Williams, Mrs. Ellen Alma Yawn, and Mrs. Gwen Lewis, and a great niece, Parker Olivia Goff.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sears will be held Wednesday at 4:00 P.M. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Chris Johnson officiatin­g. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Palms Memorial Gardens in Hazlehurst, Georgia at 2:00 P.M. Pallbearer­s will include Cliff Walker, Mike Powell, Randall Powell, Tim Thomas, Jeff Crider, Sonny Holman, and Gary Sears.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bryant Family Fund c/o the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring.

John House’s Cave Spring Chapel had charge of the arrangemen­ts for Mrs. Doris Sears.
