Several local organizations will be holding Thankgiving dinners in Polk County during the coming weekend and week, and to make it easier to find a place to participate, here's a list of meals and where to find them:
- The annual Thanksgiving meal put on at the Nathan Dean Center in Rockmart ahead of the holiday, and organizers are already getting ready for the feast. Floreace Stocks, who puts on the meal every year with the help of her family, is hoping to get community support for their plans this year to not only feed people in Polk County. The Nov. 19 meal is scheduled to be held at the Nathan Dean Center in Rockmart from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ in Cedartown will be having a free Thanksgiving dinner served on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 from noon until 2:30 p.m. in order to serve as many as possible there will be a limit on dinners per person. The menu includes: turkey with gravy and dressing, cranberry sauce, green beans, potato salad, roll and dessert. The church is located at 703 Robert L. Parks Blvd., Cedartown.
- Live Oak Baptist Church will host the third annual Share the Love Thanksgiving Meal on Wednesday, Nov. 23 starting at 4:30 p.m. at the church located at 150 Live Oak Road, Aragon. The free meal includes turkey, dressing, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls and other items. Plates can also be picked up at Simply Staffing at 634 Goodyear St., Rockmart. - Compassion Outreach will be hosting a free Thanksgiving meal at the Church of God of the Union Assembly at 32 Prospect Road, Rockmart, starting at 11 a.m. until the food runs out. Dine in, take out or call for delivery at 404-623-8365 or at 770-773-5487.
- Rydell Palmer said the annual Feed Polk County Thanksgiving dinner will not be held this year due to problems with organization. He gave out vouchers for free turkeys for 32 families in need with a $500 donation from the HON Company.
