Baskbetbal­l season gets underway in Polk County

For those who get the paper on Tuesday, mark your calendars and get ready for another season of roundball in Polk County now that the Cedartown and Rockmart boys and girls teams are back in action.

Cedartown was the latest to play this past week, hosting both Rome for the junior varsity and girls games and Model for the boys game on Nov. 26.

The Bulldog boys (1-0) turned out a big win on their home floor, coming away with a 58-49 win over the Model Blue Devils to kick off the season. They’ll face Woodland Tuesday after press time at 7:30 p.m. in Cartersvil­le. The girls will play at 6 p.m.

Cedartown’s Lady Bulldogs, now 1-1 for the season, fell to Rome in a 64-38 Saturday, but opened their season with a win on Nov. 22 against Sonoravill­e 38-34.

Both Bulldog teams are on the road again on Friday at Temple High School with 6 and 7:30 p.m. starts, and then Cedartown will host the Armuchee Indians on Saturday.

Rockmart meanwhile is starting off their season with an opening hard knock from North Paulding for the boys, who fell 87-64 on Nov. 26 in their season opener on the road in Dallas. They stand at 0-1 as they start region play after press time on Tuesday at home against Coosa,

the girls to start at 6 p.m. and the boys following.

The Lady Jackets are also off to an 0-1 start for the season in an opening 20 point loss 64-44 against North Paulding as well.

Both the boys and girls teams will play Saturday in Adairsvill­e, followed up on Dec. 6 by a game on the road at Chattooga and then back home against region rival Pepperell on Dec. 9.

Rockmart and Cedartown will face each other on Dec. 10 for the first time with the Jacekts set to host first, and then again on Dec. 17 with the Bulldogs hosting.
