No serious injuries as car drives into Rome skating rink

- By Kristina Wilder

No one was seriously injured and business will continue as usual at Skater Zone after a car crashed into the entrance of the skating rink on Calhoun Road on late last week.

Around 1: 20 p. m. on Dec. 30, a woman driving a Toyota Corolla backed her car into the glass front door of the business, 2606 Calhoun Road. Floyd County police Pfc. Michael Poster said Friday night that he could not release the name of the driver until the investigation i nto t he wreck was completed.

According to Poster, nobody was in the building at the time of the wreck and the driver was taken to Floyd Medical Center.

“I only saw scrapes and scratches on the driver,” he said.

Poster said he was unsure of exactly what happened to cause the wreck. “It looks like she went through the parking lot and then backed into the building and right through the doors,” he said.

Lori Wiggins, a worker at Skater Zone, which was formerly known as Fun Wheels Skating Center of Rome, said the glass door was replaced quickly.

“We are getting the glass company to fix the door now,” she said Friday afternoon.

The business opened as usual at 7 p.m. Friday and Wiggins said the New Year’s Eve Late Skate was still on for Saturday night.

“It seems to have only damaged the doors,” she said. “There is no structural damage.”
