No action taken by BOE
Polk County Board of Education members gathered for a special called meeting, but no open discussion was held and only a couple of people showed up and left before the board came out of a closed session this weekend.
School board attorney Michael McRae said claimed responsibility for the meeting being held at Cedartown’s Southcrest Bank location on North Main Street on Saturday, and apologized for the confusion over the meeting’s final location.
“We had previously held a board meeting in the old Southcrest Bank building, and didn’t realize that the water and electricity had been cut off since it’s in the middle of a sale,” he said. “Our office was too small for us all to meet there, so we had to have it here.”
He also announced at the beginning of the meeting the board was going into a closed session to dis- cuss a personnel investigation, but would not comment further.
Board members voted unanimously to go into the closed session shortly after 9 a.m. on Jan. 21, and remained there to discuss the personnel investigation for an hour and a half.
No action was taken by the board when they adjourned at 10:28 a.m.
In an article published earlier this week, board members Hal Floyd and James Foster confirmed the school system’s attor- neys are investigating allegations of improper conduct made against Darrell Wetherington.
Wetherington, who had been principal at Cedartown High School, became superintendent of the system on Jan. 1. He was the lone finalist for the position after William Hunter retired at the end of 2016.
