Rockmart’s boys and girls basketball t eams went through a week with mixed results as the pair took wins and losses in region play.

Both teams chalked up wins against Gordon Central on Jan. 17, but couldn’t come up with home wins against Chattooga on Jan. 20 before getting a break and hitting the road for their next two games.

Kicking off their week of play, the Jackets pulled off a 62-49 win over Gordon Cen- tral on Jan. 17.

Morgan Sims scored big on with 18 points to start off the week, followed by Avery Allen with 12 points, and Bronson Garner with 7 points.

“We have alot of stuff to get better on, this is the time you want to get better,” said head coach Kyle Stephens after the Jan. 17 game. “The region tournament is in 3 weeks and we need to get to the point where we are getting better every game.”

One team the Jackets will have to overcome heading into the region tournament is Chattooga, who Rockmart fell to ending the week with a 57-47 loss despite a neck and neck first half.

The Jackets paid for a foulfilled second half but despite the whistles Garner ended the night with 21 points, followed by Sims and Cam Jones with seven a piece.

Win some, lose some

The Lady Jackets faced the same results in the region, with a win over Gordon Central and a loss to Chattooga.

Rockmart won on Jan. 17 in a 44- 32 win over the Lady Warriors at home, with a three way scoring tie between Shana Abrams, Madison Davis, and Kahayla Robinson put the Lady Jackets over the top with 10 points a piece.

Coach Andre Clark comments following the Jan. 17 game were that “the difference between now and last time we played is that we stepped up our defensive energy; we are working defensively and we are able to pull games out now.”

That’s not t he way things worked out on Jan. 20, when the Lady Jackets hosted Chattooga for another region contest that saw the girls fall 4835, and Clark changing his thoughts about the energy of the team.

“We just did not have enough energy to match their energy, they came out and wanted the game more then we did,” he said.

Kahayla Robinson ended the night for the Lady Jackets atop the scoring sheet with 15 points, followed by seven for Madison Davis and five for Shana Abrams.

Both teams have games this week after press time on Tuesday, Jan. 24 on the road against Pepperell, then take a trip to Trenton to face Dade County on Friday.
