Rockmart girls keep up the wins over Model

- SJ Sports Correspondent

Rockmart’s lone soccer game this past week ended with the girls picking up another win in the region, while the boys continue to struggle on the field with more games ahead for both teams starting today.

The Lady Jackets came in hot on a cold Monday night on Feb. 27 to represent the Rock with another victory against Model. That puts the Lady Jackets at 6-1 for the season so far, and 5-1 in region play.

Rockmart took the 3-1 win with two scores shot by Ashlyn Jay, and one goal shot by Madison Bozydaj.

Defense held up the lower end of the field wonderfully, but only because Imani McCluskey took the MVP award for the game with 13 saved shots at goalie.

“Oooh, can we say ecstatic?!” was head coach Kristan Bradfield’s response after asked how she felt about the night’s win. “So we are very happy about how the ladies played soccer in this one, and that’s how we like to play Lady Jacket soccer.”

Model got the better of the Rockmart boys soccer team during the home stand, losing 7-0 to the Blue Devils on the pitch.

The Rockmart boys stand at 2-4 on the season, and 2-2 in region play heading into their next region matchup.

Scores weren’t available at press time for a game later in the week that pitted both Jacket teams against Gordon Central.

Rockmart is back in action this week on the road today against Armuchee, then hosts Coosa on Tuesday and Gordon Central on March 21.
