Rockmart stays at top of region 7-AA

- SJ Sports Correspond­ent This play at first between Pepperell and Rockmart sent the runner scrambling back to base.

The Rockmart Yellow Jackets are undefeated in Region 7-AA play heading into a trio of games at home for the Bulldogs that started after press time on Tuesday, and continues today at home.

The Jackets host Gordon Lee today after taking a road trip to Armuchee on Tuesday and Model on Friday, following up on a pair of wins from last week and a game put on hold due to stormy weather.

Rockmart’s nail biter against the Pepperell Dragons was brought up short in a 5-5 tie that was stopped due to thunder and lightning.

They later finished the game and grabbed a 6-5 win in an eighth inning of play off a Brayden Cole walk-off, later repeated in the week by Dawson Sanders.

The Jackets will still have to finish that game against the Dragons, but got back to work on March 22 hosting the Rome Wolves in a non-region contest. Rockmart picked up a 2-1 win over the visitors before getting back to region work later in the week.

Evan Ratcliff and Ty Floyd held off the Wolves to the lone run and only three hits on the day. Rome only scored in the top of the seventh and Dawson Sanders saved the day in the bottom of the 8th inning with a walk-off for the Jackets win.

Rockmart went back to their clubhouse with another win notched on their belt for the region 5-4 over the Coosa Eagles at home on March 24.

Kole holder pitched for before at switch was made on the mound in the fourth inning, where Cole came in and didn’t gave up no more runs for the night. Floyd and Avery Allen produced hits early on to keep the Jackets on top, but then the whole team went hitless for the rest of the night.
