The Covenant College Lady Scots are getting one of Polk County’s young talents to play with the women’s basketball team in coming years on the college level.

Kahayla Robinson was joined by her family, friends and coaches on March 20 for a ceremony at Rockmart High School celebrating her intentions to join the Division III NCAA school on Lookout Mountain, just south of Chattanooga.

She said she had previously spent a lot of time with the team at a camp and gotten to know players well, making her decision of going to Covenant College a no-brainer.

“After the camp, I really grew a huge bond with some of the girls on the team,” she said. “It gave me a drive to go to the school. They were really warm and opened up to me.”

She said she had visited the two other schools she was choosing between, Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala., and the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, but felt most at home at Covenant College.

“I look forward to the experiences I’m going to have,” she said. “It’s a different campus from those I’ve visited too, but I really just look forward to the college life.”

Robinson wants to study sports and physical education with the intention of one day passing along her knowledge of the game to future players.

“I want to get a coach- ing job, preferably in basketball,” she said.

Robinson was joined by her mother and future step father, Tawana Sims and ET Turner, along with extended family, friends and others as she signed her intention to play with the Lady Scots.

The team is a NCAA Division III school located on Lookout Mountain near the Tennesee-Georgia line. The Scots are a member of t he USA South conference, which includes teams like LaGrange College, Huntingdon College, Agnes Scott College and more. The Lady Scots finished their 2016- 17 season at 12- 13 overall.
