Bulldogs struggle in their latest region losses

- From staff reports

A pair of losses in the region has Cedartown hoping to regroup this week and regain lost position in the standings to ensure they end up with a playoff spot in Class AAAA at the end of the season.

The Bulldogs now sit at 4-4 in the region on the season ahead of their upcoming road trips this week, but will be playing in non-conference games to help their overall standing, currently at 14-5 for the season.

Cedartown’s l osses came at the hands of LaGrange on March 30 in an 11- 3 defeat after t he Grangers grabbed an early lead and held on.

The Bulldogs were forced to use a trio of pitchers, with Casey Newsome taking the loss. Henley Hayes also came to the mound to try to make the situation better, but the Grangers continued to add runs during his stint as pitcher.

Cedartown and LaGrange had to postpone the game for a while to al- low for storms to move through Polk County with a lightning delay, but eventually t he game came to a close with a Granger win.

The Bulldogs also had no luck with the Troup County Tigers last week. They fell in a close 2- 1 home stand after the teams tied it up through most of the game. The Tigers were able to grab one more run for the win later in the innings. Previously Cedartown had picked up a win over Troup County in a 1- 0 game earlier in March as region play begun.

Now Cedartown has a chance to get back onto a winning streak, taking to the road to travel to Darlington on Thursday, and then Arabia Mountain on Saturday before getting back into region play after Spring Break.

The Bulldogs will finish out their regular season schedule for the region with t heir f i nal f our games against Central Carroll, Sandy Creek, Chapel Hill and Cartersville before region tournament play begins.
