- By Kevin Myrick Editor

A Cedartown man who had been sought on felony charges in the stabbing of a 17- year- old who thwarted a burglary attempt was arrested only a few days after the incident.

Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome said that Matthew Dalton Stroup turned himself into police after a standoff in an attic on May 15 after tips led officers to where he was hiding on Lee Street.

Stroup remained in the Polk County Jail without bond on charges of aggravated assault and entering automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or felony.

He is reported by police to have stabbed the 17-year-old male, who found Stroup early on the morning of May 11 attempting to break into a car owned by the victim’s grandmother.

Newsome said the teen was taken to the hospital and later treated and released from Floyd Medical Center.
