Students bring home state gold for 2017

A trio of students from the Polk County College and Career Academy who are graduating this year were honored during the May regular meeting of the Board of Education for bring home state gold.

Cedartown was represente­d well again this year at the SkillsUSA State Competitio­n on March 23-25.

This year Cedartown High School has 3 State Champions and a 3rd place team.

Chase Manning is a 2 time back to back State Champion in Welding, Tripp Ivie is a first time State Champion in CNC Machining and Logan Fincher is a State Champion this year after being the runner-up in last year’s competitio­n.

All first place winners will represent Georgia at the SkillsUSA National competitio­n June 19-23 in Louisville Kentucky.

Gifts were also given to Matt Hayden and Todd Tillery, the pair of welding and carpentry instructor­s who have helped the students achieve the honors. For the past seven years, Hayden has also produced a welding student who has won a state title in SkillsUSA.
