A pair of Rockmart High School senior athletes are on their way to Tennessee for school after they signed their intentions to play with an out of state school last week.

Tileem Overton and Kerrion Woolfork are both heading to Jackson, Tenn., to play in the coming college football seasons for the Lane College Dragons.

The pair signed to the college together during a May 17 ceremony in the Rockmart High School library sur- rounded by family, friends and coaches.

“Lane has got a good football program, and I feel like I fit into the environment,” Overton said. “The team down there and the coaches are great, and I’m excited down there to become a Dragon.”

Both were glad to be heading onto the team with someone they knew. Neither yet knew what positions they would be playing on the team, or if they would be red shirt players through the first year.

“They have a great campus up there, and I like the coaching staff up there,” Woolfork said. “And going with Tileem is pretty good. It’s good to know somebody, someone I can hang onto and say ‘we’ve got this, we’re going to make it.’”

Lane College, founded in 1884 is a liberal arts school that plays against the likes of Tuskegee, Morehouse and Clark Atlanta among others in their 2017 season.

The school is an NCAA Division II school, and is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Overton, the son of Crystal Overton, was joined by his family members and friends for the signing.

He said he wants to study physical education while at Lane, with the intention of one day becoming a coach himself.

Overton was unsure of what position he’d be playing, but expected it to be in the defensive secondary or at linebacker.

Woolfork said too he was unsure of what position he was going to play, and was undecided on what he wanted to study.

He is the son of April and Cornelius Woolfork, and was joined by family and friends for the event.
