Rockmart trio arrested after pot plants found
Drug Task Force agents seized a small amount of marijuana and guns during the search of a residence and arrested three people following over flights from the Georgia Governor’s Drug Suppression Task Force last week.
According to a press release from the Polk County Drug Task Force, helicopter over flights found a number of plants off of Browning Road in southern Polk County on May 24.
“Ground units went to the location and found the marijuana plants and made contact with the homeowners,” the release stated.
That’s when the Drug Task Force got involved, and were sent to the 1800 Browning Road home, where plants were turned over to local authorities.
Homeowners claimed the plants and had been tending them, the release stated.
“A subsequent search of the residence and property yielded a small amount, less than an ounce, of prepared marijuana which was ready for use and several firearms,” the release stated.
A trio of suspects were taken into custody in the aftermath of the search. Those included Rembert Edwards, 61, Sonia Edwards, 58, and Cody Edwards, 24.
All were charged with felony purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana and possession of firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.
The elder Edwards were also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana charges.
Rembert Edwards of 1768 Browning Road, Rockmart, was released on a $12,100 bond after spending four days in jail according to Polk County Jail records.
Sonia and Cody Ed- wards, both of 1800 Browning Road, Rockmart, were also released on bond. Sonia Edwards spent three days in jail and was released on a $12,600 bond, and Cody Edwards was released on a $ 10,100 bond after four days in jail.
