Rockmart block party kicks off summer

- From staff reports

Rockmart closed off Marble Street last Friday night and brought out music, arts and crafts and more for families to enjoy downtown during the June Block Party put on by local businesses.

Merchants around downtown Rockmart came together and hosted a block part that happens every first Friday of the month excluding July.

This event is to help showcase the down town merchants, local artist, local musicians, and to just show off your "hot rod."

June's block party featured a Car show, a live performance by David Nixon and them Nixon boys, and games for the kids. Local artist also came in and showed off their artwork, items such as a acrylic painted guitars with roses sculpted on it.

Food was provided by the local stores in the downtown area which are Soli's Soups, Salads, and Sandwiches, Slate Market Grille, The Rock Cafe, and Knucklehead cafe. There were also homemade goodies such as peanut brittle made available to purchase.

Jeri Perdy was asked what it was like hosting the block par-ty.

"It's Crazy as always, but you would figure that!" said Purdy. "we did had some people sick this time and wasn't able to come, but other then that the show goes on. This so we can help show off the down town area and to also have some fun."
