- By TYLER WILLIAMS SJ Correspondent

This past weekend, Rockmart hosted one of only 3 day-long board events in the world called the Chief Ladiga Silver Comet Skate challenge.

Elite Riders from all over the world came to "push" and compete in long distance trials on the Silver Come Trail, and one of those stops ended in Rockmart.

The riders are competing for trophies and sponsorships.

An annual event, the Chief Ladiga Silver Comet Skate chal-lenge was started 7 years ago by Marion Karr who was the first person to long board the entire Silver Comet Trial and was a professional biker, speaker, and even a stand-up comedian.

Boarders are evaluated on a score of the lowest time for all 3 days of the competition.

The skaters will push through 188 miles, 7 counties, and 2 states in this competition. On the first day the riders start at Smyrna and end in Rockmart, then continued on over the weekend on a second day leg from Rockmart to Anniston, Al-abama, and on day three the race will start in Anniston and end again in Smyrna.

Kyle Yan, who was the first place rider for the opening day on Friday explained what it was like to compete in the ride.

"Its awesome. I do this weekly up in New York to train," said Yan. "But to come down here and actually do it competitively makes it awesome." Karr said the ride remains unique, and a lot of fun. "There is not a race like it on the planet," said Karr, "Its an amazing race and the City of Rockmart has incredible and sponsored us every year. We love comi ng here and having Rockmart as a stop."
