Enjoy good eats at Dawn’s

- SJ Correspondent By SEAN WILLIAMS

Cedartown is no stranger to new businesses, and there is always room available for chefs wanting to bring new food to the table. Since opening on December 29th of last year, Dawn’s owners Dawn Davenport and Betty Lapann have been filling their new home of 110 Herbert St. with a lovely ambiance and all the southern cuisine a Cedartown resident could want.

Those interested can eat at Dawn's from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Those who have a free day on Thursday can eat at Dawn's from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday Dawn's is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Carnivores would be pleased to find meats such as fried or baked chicken, hamburgers, hamburger steaks, and country fried steaks, and meat lovers can rejoice on Saturdays knowing ribs, pulled pork, and rib eye steaks can end up on their plate too.

Vegetables are purchased locally and include pinto beans, green beans, corn slaw, fried green tomatoes, and veggie lovers can scarf down baked beans, baked potatoes, and baked sweet potatoes on Thursday through Saturday.

While Dawn’s is meant to emulate the comfortable feeling of a southern kitchen, one can eat it anywhere they want thanks to Dawn’s offering free delivery to the Cedartown area. The delivery is at no additional cost to the order, which typically averages around seven to eight dollars. Those who want an even cheaper price can earn “Dawn Bucks” by frequenting the restaurant. Each Dawn Buck will reduce the order cost by one dollar.

One of Dawn's strongest point is certainly the casual, homey ambiance of one of the most historic buildings in Cedartown. What is now Dawn’s was once a bookstore, a newspaper building, an art studio, and the restaurant Smoke and Cedar. Just entering the building requires you to turn the knob of a seventy five year old door, and once inside customers are treated to fine, decadent copper trimmings encased in rich cedar wood, dim lights, and music anyone can enjoy.
