The Aragon Barbecue is 43 years old this month, and celebration is set to last from Friday, June 23rd (6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) through Saturday, June 24th (10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.) Aragon has a slew of food, vendors, music, sports, and more lined up to make one of the city's oldest traditions feel as good as new.

The Barbecue is once again being held at Aragon's Tom Pittman Field on 2nd Street, and visitors are welcome to join in- free of charge- at any time during the two day festival. Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Gospel Night will kick off the festival with religious themed tunes for the gathering to listen to before the Country/ Rock/ Bluegrass begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

For citizens who simply want a bite to eat, BBQ will be served by the Slate City Shriners all day Saturday, and the Aragon United Methodist Church Men's Club is hosting its annual pancake breakfast for $ 5 a person on Saturday morning from 7:00 a.m. to 10: 00 a. m. With music blaring and plenty of viewers nearby, event goers may want to put their batting skills to the test in the annual softball tournament taking place f rom Friday evening through Saturday evening, and spectating is always an option for those who just want to cheer on their favorite team.

Grub such as funnel cakes, chicken on a stick, Philly cheese, fried Oreos, Polish sausage, nachos, tacos, big pretzels, and shaved ice are all confirmed to be on sale from various vendors attending the event.

Non-food vendors present will be selling purses, wallets, kids swings, fidg- et spinners, camo tumblers, rope necklaces, glow necklaces, sand art, and clothing from Dixie Outfitters and Luraroe Clothing.

After the victor of the softball tournament has been decided, all of the barbecue has been devoured, and the music has ended, the 43rd annual Aragon Barbecue will end in a blaze of bright, vibrant fireworks. Beginning at 10:00 p.m., cars will line the roads for what is certain to be one of the flashiest ways to end any event.

The city of Aragon has been ardently preparing for the barbecue and went so far as to have a new parking lot constructed near Pittman Field. New fridges, stoves, counter tops, and more were also added to the area in the name of the 43rd Aragon Barbecue.

Planning for the event is not entirely finished, though, and the BBQ details are subject to change. Mayor Gary Baldwin hopes to see inflatables for children to play on, and new vendors could join at any time.
