A local Little League team is celebrating a big win.
A local youth baseball team is celebrating a big win late last week in little league play in the district, and are now getting ready to play at the sate level starting on Thursday.
Rockmart’s team representing the area in District 1 play finished up with an 8-4 win over Cartersville in a bestof-three competition for the championship.
Cartersville came out on top against Bartow County to grab the second seed spot in the district championship tournament after Rockmart grabbed an automatic first place spot in the Pool Play and District tournament in a pair of games over Bartow and Cartersville.
Rockmart took a first game 13-4 defeat in the three-game series, but came out swinging in the second and third games with an 18-5 win over Cartersville on Wednesday, and the 8-4 win on Friday night to end the month.
“This final game was a back and forth affair but we finally pulled it out in the last inning,” said coach Shane Petty in an email last week.
Petty and Jeremy Clemons will be taking the team to Savannah starting on Thursday for the 8-10 Little League All Stars State tournament, which will continue through July 15. They’ll be joined by other district winners in the All-Stars from across the state competing for the state title.
Savannah is hosting the 8-10 year old league this year, but Cartersville will be hosting the 9-11 year old all stars for state championships as well this year.
Team members include Nolan Clemons, Jake McDonald, Andrew Floyd, Colby Fuqua, Easton Petty, Hunter Deems, Seth Hamrick, Braydon Ellis, Cooper Cole, Gage Campbell, Aiden Wright, Ashton Gray and Landon Patterson. Chad Fuqua is manager of the team. See more photos of the game on B2.
