Mr. Hammock

Mr. Richard Earl Hammock, 74, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.

Mr. Hammock was born on July 12, 1941 to the late Otis Hammock Sr. and Emma Cox Hammock of Cedartown.

He graduated high school in 1959 and attended college briefly before joining the U. S. Army.

Mr. Hammock retired from Bekaert Steel and Wire in 2006 after 22 years of service. He served as a line worker and was a shop steward with the union for several years as well. Prior to that, he worked at Marquette Cement Plant in Rockmart for a number of years.

On July 10, 1964, he married Anna F. Johnson of Cedartown who preceded him in death on April 7, 2011. Their union produced three daughters: Miriam A. HammockPru­de, Alisa M. Hammock-Evans, and April L. Hammock- Whatley, all three survive him.

He also leaves behind f our grandchild­ren: Bryson E. Polhill, Jasmine A. Polhill, Ava M. Whatley and Aubrey F. Whatley.

Mr. Hammock was the sixth of nine children. Three siblings: Otis Hammock Jr., Cora Hammock and J.C. Hammock preceded him in death. He leaves five siblings: Gordon Hammock, Mollie Sewell, Gussie Woods, J.T. Hammock and Bobby Hammock to mourn his passing.

He is also survived by a number of in-laws, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Richard Earl Hammock were conducted at the Marietta Street United Methodist Church i n Cedartown on Saturday, July 1 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Hutchins officiatin­g.

Internment followed at Polk Memory Gardens in Cedartown.

Wingfield Funeral Home in Cedartown were honored to serve the family of Mr. Richard Earl Hammock. lovic; sister and brother in law, Tammy and Mike McCurley; nephew, Lance McCurley; niece, Kate McCurley; father in law and mother in law, James and Ann Astin; sister in law, Kelly Russell; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Services for Mr. Chad Lance were held Sunday, July 2, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Smith and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Blake Dodd officiatin­g.

The family received friends Sunday, July 2, 2017 prior to the service hour at the Smith and Miller Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Cedartown.

The following gentleman served as pallbearer­s: Cary Moragan, Paul Toles, Jimmy Hillis, Lance McCurley and Stephen Phillips.

The family has respectful­ly asked that flowers be omitted and memorial contributi­ons be made in Mr. Lance's name to the Our House Battered Women’s Shelter, P. O. Box 1647, Cedartown, Ga., 30125 or a charity of one's choice.
