Mr. Bennett

Mr. Jerry Wayne Bennett, age 64, of Rome, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 in a Rome medical center.

He was born in Rome on July 15, 1952, a son of the late Albert Lee Bennett and the late Mary Ruth Owens Bennett.

Mr. Bennett lived most of his life in Rome where he worked in construct i on and was of t he Church of God faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Haney; infant daughter, Christy Diane Bennett; step son, Darrell Smith and sister, Patricia Ballard.

Survivors include his two sons: David Wayne Shiflett and his wife Lorie, Rome and Shane Bennett, Rome; five step children: Sherri Baker, Penny Smith, Brenda White, Terry Smith and Andy Smith; eighteen grandchildren including special granddaughters: Sacey Mullins and Natasha Smith; fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters: Shirley Henderson and her husband Doyle, Aragon; Diane Edwards and her husband Michael, Aragon and Peggy Stegall, Silver Creek; brother, Douglas Bennett and his wife Debra, Cartersville; mother of his son David and a special member of the Bennett f amily, Bobbie Jean Shiflett; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Sexton officiating.

Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Michael Edwards officiating.
