Local youth hitting the links
Local youth got a chance to hit the links as part of summer fun meant to help bring a new generation onto the links.
The Prospect Valley Golf Course started off the summer with a camp for young kids from ages 8 to 15, giving them an opportunity to develop their skills on fairways and greens at the Rockmart-area golf course.
The camp lasted for four weeks and ended the last week with a tournament and a banquet to celebrate and to see their progress over the past month.
Blake Williams,13, was one of the oldest in the tournament and described what so far was his favorite thing about golf.
"The best thing about golf is making a good drive and hearing that ‘Tink!’" said Williams. "Nothing beats that."
He was one of many local youth who have been drawn to the game with the help of camps like this, and have improved over the years via instruction on and off the course.
Haley Brogdon, who is a Rockmart High School Lady Yellow Jackets golfer, acted as instructor for the kids.
It was her job to help them with setting up the right stance, grip, and all the tricks of the trade. She was once a junior golfer like they were, and well remembers the struggle of what it was like learning how to play well on any course.
Seeing their improvement over time is just one
