Hill Earns Eagle Scout honors, to have honor court ceremony in August

DALLAS - Brendan M. Hill (Mikey), son of Jonathan and Amanda Hill of Rockmart, has achieved Boy Scouting’s highest rank, that of Eagle Scout.

Hill, 18, was a member of Boy Scout Troop 301, sponsored by Smyrna United Methodist Church under the leadership of Scoutmaste­rs Brian Freeman and Eddie Nix. He is now an Assistant Scoutmaste­r for the troop. He is also a member of Boy Scout Venturing Crew 301.

Hill began his scouting career as a Webelo with Pack 470 and continued through Cub Scouting to achieve the highest award, the Arrow of Light and cross over to Troop 301. As a member of Troop 301, Hill held a variety of troop positions including Chaplain Aide, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Quartermas­ter. He participat­ed in National Youth Leadership Training in 2013.

He was inducted into the Egwa Tawa Dee Lodge of the Order of the Arrow in 2012 and earned Brotherhoo­d Membership in 2013.To earn the rank of Eagle, a scout must earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrat­e leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle project.

Hill’s Eagle Scout Project included the relocation and restoratio­n of a Ga-Ga Pit for Grace Covenant Church in Dallas. He coordinate­d a work crew that cleared brush, leveled the area and then relocated and restored the large wooden structure.

Under his direction, scouts and adult volunteers completed the project that took more than 160 manhours.

Hill is employed by HVAC Control Services and is an active member of Grace Covenant Church.

His Court of Honor takes place August 13th at 2 p.m. at Smyrna United Methodist Church.
