Farmers Market cooking classes coming up in Rockmart

- Rockmart’s Farmers Market will be soon hosting another cooking class in the Silver Comet trailhead building downtown.

Polk County is soon to have some of the best chefs around thanks to the Rockmart Farmers Market's upcoming 6 week cooking class.

The class will t ake place from 5 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday from August 1st to September 5.

The class will cost $5.50 but, for those that need them, scholarships are available by calling (404)436-1818. As always, cooking classes will take place in the community kitchen inside the Silver Comet Trailhead building behind the weekly market section.

The market's cooking classes traditionally take place in a day and cover a single dish or recipe. The 6 week cooking class will touch down on the basics and cover a myriad of recipes.

One of the most promi- nent skills entrants can expect to learn are basic knife skills.

It's no secret cooking is heavily dependent on slicing, chopping, and cutting, but it's also no secret wielding a knife can have unfortunate consequences.

The course will demonstrate the correct positioning and stance to wield a knife to ensure the best cuts are made with minimal risk to chefs.

Safety is the first step towards becoming a culinary artist.

Food safety standards are a big part of the class too. The food one makes can be distributed to all sorts of people, and to ensure no one gets ill from your creations, its pivotal to learn the basics of food safety.

Food is also one of the most safe checked products so future restaurant owners should look into the courses.

Generally accepted nutrition guidelines are another bullet point for the course. Different demographics of people require different nutrients, have different tastes, and require different quantities of food.

A good chef knows how to prepare a dish for a 60 year old and his 5 year old grandson.

Certain creative food dishes may simply not apply with dietary guidelines so its fundamental to have an understanding of these rules.

Aside from rules, the courses will teach various recipes and dishes.

Those who can't wait to done their chefs hat are welcome to attend upcoming, single day cooking classes such as Stuffing Peppers on July 18 and Canning Salsa on July 29.
