A timeline of the Audit
Here’s a look at the events leading up to and during County Attorney Brad McFall’s audit of the Polk County Police Department assigned to him by the Board of Commissioners. April 24 or 25, 2017 - PCPD Chief Kenny Dodd tells Comissioner Jennifer Hulsey he might plan to run for Sheriff, and Moats and at least one officer claims Moats then immediately shows up to meeting held in place of early May sessions. May 5, 2017 - Polk County Sheriff Johnny Moats sends a letter he drafted claiming 18 officers came to him with a number of allegations. May 8-11, 2017 - Polk County Standard Journal learns of the note, seeks it by Open Records Request, then later receives the letter from Sheriff Johnny Moats. May 15, 2017 - County Commission meets to formally vote to have McFall conduct an audit of the PCPD to find if any allegations in the letter are true. May 16, 2017 - McFall meets with District Attorney Jack Browning for 18 minutes in opening preparations for audit. May 18, 2017 - McFall conducts first interview May 19, 2017 - McFall conducts second interview. May 22, 2017 - Commissioner Jennifer Hulsey receives a letter from an officer whose name she redacted in turning over to the Standard Journal in July. States the letter was left on her porch.
May 22, 2017 - Officers 3-5 interviewed.
May 23, 2017 - Officers 6-9 interviewed May 24, 2017 - Officers 10 & 11 interviewed. May 25, 30, and 31 2017 - Officer 12, 13, and 14 interviewed.
June 5, 2017 - Officers 15-17 interviewed
June 6, 2017- Officers 18-22 interviewed June 7, 2017 - Board sends letter back to Moats, instructing him to call GBI if knowledge of criminal actions; interviews of Officers 23-26 completed.
June 8, 2017 - Officers 27-31 interviewed
June 12, 2017 - Officer 32 interviewed. June 13, 2017 - Officers 33 and 34 interviewed July 19 - Commissioner Scotty Tillery releases second note to Standard Journal from a former PCPD officer. July 11, 2017 - County Commission votes to approve release of redacted notes to fellow commissioners, other officials also receive copies via Open Records Request. June 22, 2017 - McFall wraps up work on audit. June 21, 2017 - Officers 37 and 38 interviewed June 19, 2017 - Officers 35 and 36 interviewed July 10, 2017 - County Commission discusses audit summary with McFall July 13 - Standard Journal makes request for notes. July 18 - Receipt of documents from the county.
