Mr. Martin

Mr. Alton Joseph Martin - lovingly known as Pop - of Powder Springs passed away peacefully July 21, 2017 surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 1, 1928 in Talladega, Ala., to the late Newman and Mattie Martin.

Mr. Martin is a graduate of Aragon School and attended school in Rockmart.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army after World War II in Korea. After serving his country, he worked at Lockheed retiring after 32 years.

He then worked for 10 years in the Cobb County School system.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by wife Robilee Coalson Martin, 7 brothers, and 3 sisters.

He is survived by his daughter Elaine (Joe) Meaders of Newnan, and son Robert Scott Martin of Gainesvill­e; 4 grandchild­ren: Mike Meaders (Tracey), Jennifer Pickett (Esmond), Jeff Martin (Misty) and Eddie Martin (Ashley), and 8 greatgrand­children, several nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend Doris Wolfe.

The Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 23 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs.

Interment followed at Powder Springs Memorial Gardens.

Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Powder Springs handled the arrangemen­ts for Mr. Alton Joseph Martin.
