Cedartown commissioners keep business light for July session, discuss upcoming election

- By SEAN WILLIAMS

Cedartown's most recent meeting consisted of only new business including discussion of the Board of Election's proposed election agreement, a lease renewal from the Georgia State Properties Commission, and an executive session based on personal and legal matters.

The city had no unfinished business to attend to, there were no delegations, no public presentations, and the manager's reports column was empty.

During the June 10 meeting, the commissioners discussed the ins and outs of the Board of Election's proposed election agreement.

The Board of Elections suggested the Cedartown municipal election be held on Nov. 7, 2017, and the commission, seeing no issue with the suggestion, moved to approve it. Cedartown's elections typically take place in November and the issue is standard.

After reaching a consensus, the commission will move to discuss a new lease renewal sent in by the Georgia State Properties Commission who is requesting use for the Department of Community Health Right from the Start at One Door Polk for July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. Commissioners were glad to approve the lease renewal and gave Georgia State Properties extended use of the building.

It was part of routine leasing renewals.

As always, the executive session is completely private and citizens were not allowed to listen in, but discussed during the executive session included personal, legal, and real estate matters.

The Cedartown commission meets the first Monday of each month at Cedartown's city hall on Philpot Street at the corner of East Avenue starting at 6 p. m. Their next work session is scheduled for Aug. 7, unless otherwise noted.
