To celebrate school coming back into session the 101 Church in Rockmart hosted an event to help local youth get ready for class.

Their Give a Kid a Chance outreach was 101 Church's way of giving back to Polk County as a whole, and to ensure that children in need head back to class with everything they need during the event held over the weekend on Saturday.

“As a church we want to be a church that gives back to the community,” said pastor James Cordell. “This was just one of those opportunities where the church can get together for the community and love on them.”

The original plan was to give 101 students a nice backpack, all the school supplies to fill it with what was needed for each grade, a pair of tennis shoes, a pair of pants, a t-shirt, a haircut, a lunch, and the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

The church ended helping a total amount of 114 kids at the end of the day, exceeding their expectations for what side of the school and must, like all students, go to the lunchroom in the morning. Car riders are to be dropped off at the front of the school, and car riders must be picked up outside of the 400 hall after school.

RHS has a new principal this yearRobyn Teems- who is taking over for Mr. Cupp. Teems has over twenty-seven years in education and hopes to see as many students graduate as possible.

School begins at 8:00a.m and students who are tardy must get a pass from the office before heading to class. Students who receive too many tardies will be appointed Saturday school and possibly an absence.

RHS has 3 lunch shifts, and students they were able to achieve in helping the community.

Annually, a week before school starts, the 101 Church plans to host this event for the community of Rockmart.

To register with your child you have a four week grace period prior to register on the 101 Church website at 101church.org.

One of 101’s values in the church is to build potential leaders for the church and community. Shelia Green was the one to step up and coordinate this event and was the one to do all the shopping for the kids.

“I was able to reach out to several people and talk to them about what it means for us to help others,” said Green “And shopping was also a blessing. when you come up with a buggy for a clothes people always want to know what you're doing so I was able to share with others about our church and what Jesus does.”

The 101 Church invites the community to come out to the church and visit them down at Van Wert Elementary school at 10: 30 a. m. and there is a Wednesday night 101 students group with K-12 meetings at 7 p.m. designated lunch is determined by their 4th period class. Lunch is once again free at RHS, and students are allowed to go outside during lunch. Students are not allowed to roam the hallways during lunch.

Returning clubs at RHS are Art Club, Chess Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, Georgia Career Technical Institution, Health Occupations Students of America, International Thespian Society, Kappa Pi Beta, Key Club, National Honor Society, Sr. Beta Club, Pep Club, Public Safety, Science Club, SkillsUSA,
