The Rock provides family atmosphere and traditional fare

- SJ Correspondent

The Rock is like a magnet for Rockmart citizens who need to cool off on a hot summer day.

Located at 103 W Elm St, the old fashioned ice cream shop and cafe situated i n downtown Rockmart is almost always filled to the brim with customers—and for good reason.

The Rock is one of many businesses owned by Mr. RW who has set up RW's Dry Cleaning, RW's Flea- Market, RW's Snackshack, and Knuckleheads all inside of Rockmart. Little is known about RW, but the man knows how to make a good restaurant and, The Rock is likely the most popular and well received of his businesses.

The Rock's interior is almost like stepping into a time machine. The stools lined up at the bar, the bicycles hanging from the ceiling, the wood work, v arious si g ns themed after the 1900's, and a hand written chalk board menu make the restaurant feel more like a passion project than a money making endeavor. The Rock feels like RW's own portal to the past, and customers are always welcome to take a trip back in time.

After plopping down at a stool, patrons will find the menu stays true to a t r aditional c af e/i c e cream shop. Ice cream is one of the most prominent items on the menu and flavors are changed seasonally. Fall may have flavors such as Pumpkin Pie, while winter may have eggnog flavored ice cream. While standards such as chocolate and va- nilla are always available, The Rock's true appeal is the unique, rare flavors only available at the restaurant at certain points in the year. Milk shakes are also available, and it wouldn't have that ice cream shop feel without hamburgers and French fries on the menu. Those craving cheese can order pizza, and the city's wing connoisseurs can chow down on all you can eat wings.

The cafe's location next to the Silver Comet Trail means runners and bikers from all over Georgia and Alabama make stops at the Rock, and because of this, it's not rare to see people with bike helmets on eating ice cream. Having a tiny little ice cream shop down town simply adds to the ambiance of downtown Rockmart and makes it feel like a truly homey city.

The Rock has also become a hangout for local teenagers who can't help but make an after school visit, and since the theatre is next door, its not uncommon to see a thespian sneaking across the road to grab a milk shake
