Stocks organizing event to help Gods Loving Angels program

- By KEVIN MYRICK Editor

Making sure that families don't go home hungry at night is the mission of one local woman whose own family has been helping the community in the past years get a holiday meal in the fall, but now is trying to do more.

Floreace Stocks annually brings her family into the Nathan Dean Center in Rockmart to feed those people who are hungry for a Thanksgiving meal, but now in extension of that cause she started God's Loving Angels, a program meant to provide food to families in need nominated by the community.

"It's something that we are hoping to get more people involved in and find those families that really need the help," Stocks said. "And we need volunteers as part of this as well."

Getting the community to take part is one reason why Stocks is organizing an event in Rockmart to get t he energy up i n hopes of i nfluencing their spirit of charity.

The Aug. 26 event scheduled for Seaborn Jones Park is still in the works, Stocks said. She's still organizing commitments from local churches and gospel groups in participating.

But her ultimate hope is that with a good slate of performances and a crowd, that she'll be able to get at least a few new converts to helping God's Loving Angels and their Feed the Sheep program.

Funds raised through concessions for the event - which she said will include hamburgers, hot dogs and fried fish among other things thus far - will go toward the monthly program to help local families with food, and toward funding their annual Thanksgiving meal.

Stocks said any donations or help that anyone would like to give in putting together the event, or with the God's Loving Angels program, would be appreciated. Those interested in lending their assistance can reach her at 678-719-1981.
