Lady Bulldogs look to regroup in 2017

The Lady Bulldogs softball team has high ambitions for a marvelous upcoming season after spending the summer working on their softball skills together as a team.

Despite having nine starters graduate from the team last season, head coach Jessica Davenport said that the girls shown up for the task.

“Going i nt o i t We thought that this year might would be a rebuilding year, but these girls have worked very hard this summer and came a long way,” said Davenport. “We coaches are extremely excited to see what these girls can do.”

Davenport also gave mention to some players who have stepped up their game for this season.

Laura Ashley Tillery was mentioned for working hard and improving on the pitcher's mound over this summer.

Also two seniors names were thrown out, Mackenzie Youngblood and Katrina Harris, for being two upcoming key players for the Bulldogs this season.

“For the most part this is a young group of girls besides two girls who we brought back that were starters last year,” said Davenport. “But I think

that these girls can surprise some people. They are doing things that even we didn’t think could do at first. These girls have worked hard, had fun, and got better every day.”

Jazzy Taylor, who plays left field, said that she is excited for the upcoming season this year after putting in all the hard work on the field this summer.

“We’ve just came together as a team and put in the work needed to get better this summer,” said Taylor. “We are just excited to get on the field and play soon so all this hard work will finally pay off.”

Upcoming next week the Lady Dog’s have two scrimmages at home to kick off the season. These games were first on Monday and then following this Thursday and both games were set to start at 5 p.m.

The first official game for the Lady Bulldog’s will be Aug. 8 at their county rivals field in Rockmart.

This will be a huge game for the girls and also a great way to start off the season on a energetic note, Davenport said.

The junior varsity team will start first at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity team to follow.
