Organizers getting ready for fair coming in September
The summer is dwindling down slowly day by day, and as the final weeks of the season come to a close Polk County will once again gather together for an annual celebration of the autumn to come and harvest time with the annual fair.
Some changes are in store for those accustomed to coming to the fairgrounds in Cedartown during the early days of September, according to Exchange club of Cedartown member and volunteer in charge of marketing for this year’s fair Sam Branch.
One big change that pa- trons to this year’s fair will notice is a slight increase in prices from year before as a new company is being brought in for the rides, games and additional concessions.
Branch said that Primetime Carnivals will be bringing in their equipment for the fair a few days before opening night on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
“There’s going to be all the old favorites, but with some exciting new additions this year with different management,” Branch said.
The first night will allow students in the Polk School District free admission for the night into the fairgrounds. It does not include the cost of an armband for rides.
Regular admission for the fair is $3 for students and $5 for adults. Parking is always free at the fairgrounds. Senior night for free admission for those over the age of 65 is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 14.
Armbands f or t his year's fair are $18 on the first three nights from Tuesday Sept. 12 through Thursday, Sept. 14, and then are $20 on the final two nights, Friday Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16.
The f air continues through the rest of the week each evening until Saturday, Sept. 16.
One area where fair organizers through the Exchange Club of Cedartown continue to work is getting entertainment acts lined up for the nightly schedule.
Several competitions for judging - from livestock to vegetables, flowers, arts and crafts and more - will need to have applications in by the end of the month. Specifically, livestock submissions must be in on Aug. 31 for consideration in the fair this year, according to Polk County Extension Coordinator Ricky Ensley, who is charge of livestock judging..
