The Cedartown Marching Band is on fire for this years season and is carrying high ambitions that this year's set will top the previous one’s before.

After the scorching hot days at band camp before the start of the school year and after practices in the days since, the marching Bulldog band is now ready to put this year's show into action.

Despite a majority of the band being a young class, and the band being low in numbers, band director Tom McGarity said what they lack in quantity the band makes up for in quality.

“We're a little bit of a younger band, but the ones that are here are very dedicated,” said McGarity, “My band staff and myself think the quality is as good or even better than the former years.”

When having such a big group trying to reach a common goal it is imperative that they all carry one positive mindset when reaching to get things achieved. McGarity said the band has show that and more over the past weeks as they've gotten back into the groove of marching and preparing for upcoming competition shows on the weekends in the fall.

“I’ve had so many band students come up and tell me how this has been a great year so far and that's because no one has been griping, complaining, or questioning leadership,” said McGarity, “Even the veteran band students realize that we are making progress in the right direction.”

And they have a hot set ready to play for the crowds this year as well that is centered around tracks that will leave fans truly singed by the end of the show.

McGarity has picked out a medley of popular songs for his marching show to perform this year, featuring popular 60s hits "Light My Fire" from The Doors, "Fire" by Jimi Hendrix, the more contemporary hit "Start a Fire" by John Legend, the country hit "Ring of Fire" from Johnny Cash, and the classical piece "Firebird Suite" from Igor Stravinsky.

They'll be bringing this compilation to fans during halftime shows at home and away for the 2017 season, and hit the field for competition of their own starting on Sept. 30, when they take part in Heard County's "The State Line Battle" marching band competition.

Cedartown is also set to make an appearance later in the season in Rockmart for their neighbor's Jacket competition.
