- From staff reports

Filming for scenes for Season 3 of ““Hap and Leonard”” begins in Cedartown next week, and production crews have been busy turning back the clock a few decades downtown in preparation for the shooting work ahead.

Storefronts on Main Street in the line of sight around the corner of West Avenue have been getting a makeover. One building is now home to a Christmas-themed television repair shop with front windows stacked with old tubebased screens. Rugs fill the window of another.

A fresh coat of paint went on the former home of Red, White and Brew, and much more has been happening in downtown Cedartown before the start of shooting expected this coming Tuesday.

Stu Stegall Productions plans t o use downtown streets from Tuesday, Sept. 26 through Friday, Sept. 29 and are announcing their plans to shut some areas down early in hopes to avoid any potential traffic problems.

Sharif Salama, the assistant location manager for the show, detailed the plans for how the production company will shoot during the week.

During daytime hours, certain streets will face intermittent delays in traffic, with full closures during the overnight hours. Main Street will face delays during the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. between Sterling Holloway Place and Stubbs Street.

Following on Sept. 27, they’ll close off Main Street again between Noyes Street and Ware Street from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and full-vehicle closure following until 10 p.m.

The same stretch of Main Street will be closed again on Sept. 28, with a lane closure as well between 1 and 11 p.m.

The final day of shooting currently scheduled for Sept. 29 for Main Street between Noyes and West Ware streets between 1 and 7 p.m. and full traffic closure between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.

“We strive to be responsible and respectful guests in your neighborhood, and to that end, we are working with the Department of Transportation and Cedartown Police Department officers will be present on the above dates to ensure public safety,” the letter stated. Christmas decorations also went up during the final week of August and ahead of Labor Day for film crews to have for use as backdrops for their fictional town of Grovetown, Texas, celebrating the holidays in 1989.

The upcoming third season of “Hap and Leonard” is expected to premiere in spring 2018 on Sundance TV.
