Cantrell descendants gather in Cedartown for family reunion

- From staff reports

Descendents of Waddie Thomas Cantrell and Lillian Davidson Cantrell gathered once again for the group’s annual reunion that took place on Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Cedartown Women’s Building on Wissahickon Avenue.

Approximately 67 descendants from across the country gathered to catch up, share stories, and spend time together. The farthest travelers were Rhanda Duncan who visited from Hixson, Tennessee, Martin and Nancy Thomas who traveled from Adrian, Missouri, and Bonnie Kelley who traveled from Nashville, Tennessee.

By noon the dedicated bunch of descendants were gathered around the fireplace and taking the annual family portrait before family member Sammy White read a bible scripture and spoke to the family.

The family lunch was followed by Janice and Sammy White addressing the passing of family members Lynn Cantrell Smith and Beuce Hackney.

The family mourned the loss but followed up with a more positive note by sharing updates about their life and current happenings. Jaxen Long enjoyed giving out door prizes with Sammy White almost as much as the group enjoyed the walk to Cedartown’s Big Springs, which some of the family members had not done in years.

A good time was had by all, but the Cantrells had to part ways until next year.

Waddie and Lillian lived in Cedartown as early as 1800 where Waddie ran a cotton gin. The descendants have stayed committed to the family’s lineage for decades upon decades.
