ROCKMART HOMECOMING:
2016 Homecoming Queen Dallas O’Connor joins this year’s Rockmart High School queen Megan Sims at midfield with RHS Athletic Director Barry Williams at halftime last Friday night.
The festivities are over, and a 2017 Homecoming Queen has been crowned at Rockmart High School.
Rockmart High senior Megan Sims was crowned this year’s queen after being escorted onto the field by her parents.
Sims, a member of the varsity cheer squad, kept up her duties during Rockmart’s game against Dade County on the sidelines in her homecoming attire before halftime festivities for the evening were over.
“I honesty have no words for this I’m just speechless at this moment.” Sims said as she wiped away tears following the ceremony at halftime. “After we found out the results, my brother faced timed me from college because he couldn’t make it and I got so emotional.”
Sims takes over as Homecoming Queen in 2017 from the 2016 queen, Dallas O’Connor, who was on hand to crown Sims during halftime.
Rockmart’s homecoming this year marked the first home game for the football team as well after spending four games in a row on the road, including two weeks in a row at Cedartown High School. Students celebrated all last week with theme days, and the annual parade down Marble Street in downtown Rockmart.
This year’s court included seniors Cassidy Alea Duke, Allison Lindsey Dunn, Rosalee Kathryne Haney, RaeAnna Jewel Hulsey, Megan Michelle Sims and Conner Lindsay Tant. The junior court includes Jennifer Ann Crawford and Mollie Rebecca Little, sophomores Kinsey Grace Jones and Mary Elizabeth Laltrello, and freshmen Aubrey Ashea Huggins and Gracie Tayler Tant.
This year’s boys on the court were seniors Nicholas Logan Gable, Mi- chael Dennis Gay, Ethan Gregory Gober, Kolton Tucker Holder and Steven Riley Miller. Underclassmen representatives include Juniors, Zoryan Lamar Hendricks and Jesse Ray Taff, sophomores Christopher James Culver and Tyler Chase Rowland and freshmen Mehiji Mandrall Floyd and Stockton Richard Norrod.
