Lady Bulldogs honor breast cancer survivors
Cedartown picks up a pair of wins for its annual awareness game and a trip to Sandy Creek.
Enjoying the festivities around win is always fun for the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs softball team, but the team took to the pitcher’s circle to start last week for a different type of celebration.
The team took time out before the start of their first game of the week on Sept. 19 to honor a local woman and other survivors and those who lost the battle with breast cancer during their annual Pink Out game.
Lynette McElwee was joined by her family and the team to throw out the first pitch for the Lady Bulldogs’ home stand against Troup County as part of their annual efforts to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
However, the Lady Bulldogs also beat off the Lady Tigers in their first of two wins for the week to put the team at 9-11 at press time over the weekend.
Cedartown won after putting up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, then rallied in the sixth to add six more and kept the Lady Tigers off the bags as Laura Anne Tillery picked up the 10-5 win on her record.
Following t hat, t he Lady Bulldogs took a trip to Sandy Creek to round out the week of region play with a 3-1 win over the Lady Patriots.
At 4- 6 in region play, Cedartown has a trio of games left in the regular season. On Monday after press time, Cedartown hosted Haralson County followed by a Tuesday region matchup against Chapel Hill at home as well for senior night.
The region and regular season wraps up on Thursday with a final afternoon on the road at Central Carroll.
Cedartown sits at 5th in region play behind a first place Chapel Hill, followed by Central in second, LaGrange in third and Cartersville in fourth place.
The Lady Bulldogs need to pick up wins over Chapel Hill and Central if they hope to beat out Cartersville for region tournament placement and the potential to get into the state playoffs.
