Rockmart stays perfect in region with win for homecoming

- By Tyler Williams SJ Correspondent

Last Friday’s game was all that Rockmart football fans hoped it would be: a region win at home and a celebration of local students all rolled up into one night.

Rockmart swarmed all over Dade County in a 32-0 win to advance their record to 3-2 on the season and stay perfect in 7-AA play.

The key to the night was defense, who kept up the shutout through the second half, which allowed the offense to score at will.

Za b r i o n Whatl e y, Markus Smith, Dylan Bailey, Ant Lester, and Juke Boozer all ran into the end zone on the night.

Whatley broke f ree for two big touchdown runs — one of which was called back — and racked up more than 100 yards of offense on his own.

“It was a good win because it was a region win, the Jackets are two and zero now for the region,” said head coach Biff Parson. “We had a couple of errors that we have to fix, but I am proud of my boys, my coaches, the cheerleaders, the band, and the community. At the Rock its Rocking right now.”

Rockmart (3-2, 2-0 7- AA) is back in action next week traveling to Chattooga County in their road trip for an upcoming region matchup with the Indians.

The Indians are 1-4 on the season with a 1-1 record in region play following a win last Friday night over Gordon Central in a 40-0 shutout.

Chattooga put up their first four losses to start the season against Fort Payne, Alabama; Dawson County; Ridgeland; and Coosa.
