Mr. Big Jacket back for 2017

The an­nual com­pe­ti­tion to name the top man at Rock­mart High School is back again for 2017 as the fundraiser for the school’s band pro­gram put to­gether a night of fun for the com­mu­nity.

Some 17 par­tic­i­pants have been voted by class­mates at the high school to take part in the com­pe­ti­tion for two awards: Mr. Big Jacket and Ju­nior Mr. Big Jacket, ac­cord­ing to me­dia spe­cial­ist Dena Lump­kin, who is help­ing to or­ga­nize the event.

“It is so much fun to watch,” Lump­kin said. “The au­di­ence loves it and re­ally gets into it, and the kids are ex­cited to get ready for it ev­ery year.”

Se­niors com­pet­ing for Mr. Big Jacket in­clude Jean Gar­cia, Michael Gay, Ethan Gober, Cade Holder, D’Lante McClain and Ri­ley Miller. Un­der­class­men voted to par­tic­i­pate in­clude ju­niors Zo­ryan Hen­dricks, Jack­son Norris and Donte Wil­liams; sopho­mores Jukeyvi­uos Boozer, Caleb Ca­son, Reed Couch and CJ Cul­ver; and fresh­men Me­hiji Floyd, Isaac Gober, Stock­ton Nor­rod and Javin What­ley.

The night in­cludes a run­way walk for the gen­tle­man to show off their fashionable wares, a tal­ent por­tion of the night, and then a ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion for the se­nior con­tes­tants.

“I t i sn’t some­thing you’d want t o miss,” Lump­kin said.

Tick­ets for the event at the Rock­mart The­ater on Elm Street will be on sale at the door on Satur­day, Nov. 11 for $7 for adults and $5 for students.

All pro­ceeds go to sup­port the Rock­mart High School band pro­gram.
