Mr. Big Jacket back for 2017

The annual competitio­n to name the top man at Rockmart High School is back again for 2017 as the fundraiser for the school’s band program put together a night of fun for the community.

Some 17 participan­ts have been voted by classmates at the high school to take part in the competitio­n for two awards: Mr. Big Jacket and Junior Mr. Big Jacket, according to media specialist Dena Lumpkin, who is helping to organize the event.

“It is so much fun to watch,” Lumpkin said. “The audience loves it and really gets into it, and the kids are excited to get ready for it every year.”

Seniors competing for Mr. Big Jacket include Jean Garcia, Michael Gay, Ethan Gober, Cade Holder, D’Lante McClain and Riley Miller. Underclass­men voted to participat­e include juniors Zoryan Hendricks, Jackson Norris and Donte Williams; sophomores Jukeyviuos Boozer, Caleb Cason, Reed Couch and CJ Culver; and freshmen Mehiji Floyd, Isaac Gober, Stockton Norrod and Javin Whatley.

The night includes a runway walk for the gentleman to show off their fashionabl­e wares, a talent portion of the night, and then a question and answer session for the senior contestant­s.

“I t i sn’t something you’d want t o miss,” Lumpkin said.

Tickets for the event at the Rockmart Theater on Elm Street will be on sale at the door on Saturday, Nov. 11 for $7 for adults and $5 for students.

All proceeds go to support the Rockmart High School band program.
