Mr. Mur­phy

Mr. Lloyd Alvin Mur­phy Jr., age 88, of Ma­ri­etta, passed away Thurs­day, Oct. 19, 2017, fol­low­ing an ex­tended ill­ness.

He was born in Cedar­town on July 22, 1929, son of the late Lloyd Mur­phy Sr. and Ema­line Young Mur­phy.

Mr. Mur­phy lived most of his life in the At­lanta area. He was a grad­u­ate of Cedar­town High School in 1947 and con­tin­ued his ed­u­ca­tion at The Univer­sity of Geor­gia where he grad­u­ated in 1951.

Once he grad­u­ated from col­lege he worked his en­tire ca­reer in the dairy in­dus­try. His great­est joy was his fam­ily and friends.

He was never a stranger to any­one, al­ways will­ing to start up a con­ver­sa­tion, es­pe­cially in the gro­cery store about milk and cheese. His fa­vorite hobby was his col­lec­tion of an­tique cars.

Mr. Mur­phy was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents and his brother, Au­gustin Mur­phy.

Mr. Mur­phy is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife, Hol­lice Mur­phy; sis­ter, Mary Ann Mur­phy Strong of Bak­ers­field, Calif.; nieces and neph­ews: Ida and Ken Dixon of Ma­ri­etta, Ross and Tricia Mur­phy of Rocky Mount, N. C., Karen and Tom Cun­ning­ham of Dal­las, Texas and John and Erin Strong of Thou­sand Oaks, Calif. Sev­eral great nieces and neph­ews also sur­vive.

Fu­neral ser­vices were held Tues­day, Oct. 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Smith and Miller Fu­neral Home with Rev. Britt Mad­den Jr. of­fi­ci­at­ing.

In­ter­ment fol­lowed in the fam­ily lot of Northview Ceme­tery in Cedar­town.

The fol­low­ing gentle­men served as pall­bear­ers: Ross Mur­phy, Ken Dixon, David Hen­drix, Stacy Tay­lor, Clin­ton Tay­lor and Zachary Tay­lor.

The fam­ily re­ceived friends at the fu­neral home on Tues­day, Oct. 24, 2017 prior to the ser­vice hour.

The Smith and Miller Fu­neral Home of Cedar­town was hon­ored to serve the fam­ily of Mr.
