Mr. Murphy

Mr. Lloyd Alvin Murphy Jr., age 88, of Marietta, passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, following an extended illness.

He was born in Cedartown on July 22, 1929, son of the late Lloyd Murphy Sr. and Emaline Young Murphy.

Mr. Murphy lived most of his life in the Atlanta area. He was a graduate of Cedartown High School in 1947 and continued his education at The University of Georgia where he graduated in 1951.

Once he graduated from college he worked his entire career in the dairy industry. His greatest joy was his family and friends.

He was never a stranger to anyone, always willing to start up a conversati­on, especially in the grocery store about milk and cheese. His favorite hobby was his collection of antique cars.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Augustin Murphy.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his loving wife, Hollice Murphy; sister, Mary Ann Murphy Strong of Bakersfiel­d, Calif.; nieces and nephews: Ida and Ken Dixon of Marietta, Ross and Tricia Murphy of Rocky Mount, N. C., Karen and Tom Cunningham of Dallas, Texas and John and Erin Strong of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Smith and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Britt Madden Jr. officiatin­g.

Interment followed in the family lot of Northview Cemetery in Cedartown.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearer­s: Ross Murphy, Ken Dixon, David Hendrix, Stacy Taylor, Clinton Taylor and Zachary Taylor.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 prior to the service hour.
