CALHOUN — Rockmart has sealed their place among the top teams in Class AA football with their 41- 0 shutout road win over Gordon Central as the regular season winds down.

Rockmart has one last game to go this week to go undefeated in Region 7- AA this Friday night hosting Model, and stand at 7-2 overall for 2017, in prime position to control their destiny as the playoffs loom ahead.

The Yellow Jackets have good reason to believe this might be a good year in the postseason. Their win over Gordon Central last Friday night f eatured an opening score by Zabrion Whatley from 17- yards out, followed by other big runs by Markus Smithfor a 67yard scamper into the end zone, and Dylan Bailey working under center throwing for a 56-yard strike to Juke Boozer to round out a 21-0 halftime lead.

Rockmart’s offense came out on the field for the first drive of the second half and gave the Warriors hope as they coughed up the football. However, Gordon Central, again, failed to capitalize as the field goal they were forced to kick was blocked.

The Yellow Jackets promptly turned around and put up 20 points in the quarter (one missed PAT). The first was via Ant Lester, who ran it in from one-yard out. The second was an 18-yard touchdown burst by Whatley, and the third was a 39-yard quarterback sneak by Bailey.

Neither team scored in the final quarter, and the game ended with the score of 41-0.

Rockmart’s win over Gordon Central came on the Warrior’s senior night, and this Friday the Jackets will celebrate their own players set to graduate in Spring 2018 as well as the Model Blue Devils travel to the Rock for the final game of the regular season.

The Jackets have already cemented a home playoff game with their unofficial region championship win last Friday over Gordon Central, which if the Jackets can win out over the 1-8 Blue Devils.
