Vinings at Oxford now open

- By Sean Williams SJ Correspondent

The Vinings at Oxford cut one ribbon for multiple reasons when the Polk Chamber of Commerce visited the housing complex this month.

While the business has pledged membership to the chamber, Nov. 17’s ribbon cutting also marked the Vinings grand opening, and families are soon to be moving into new homes.

Located at 800 Blance Rd., Cedartown’s new townhouse sports 62 family town-homes comprised of 9 1-bedroom homes, 32 2-bedroom homes, and 21 3-bedroom homes.

The community offers a laundry room, community room, library, resident functions, cable and internet ready units, central heat and air, a dishwasher, a stove, a refrigerator, washer and dryer hook-ups in all units, window treatments, 24-hour emergency service, off-street parking, a picnic area, and more.

The property was developed in partnership with local, state and federal officials and under the administration of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The Vinings at Oxford is a multi-family development for residents whose individual or family incomes are 60 percent or less of the area median income.

At the ribbon cutting were local officials Scott Tillery, Polk County Commissioner; Bill Fann, Cedartown City Manager; and Polk County Sheriff Johnny Moats. From the Georgia Department of Community Affairs was Philip Gilman, Director, Office of Housing.

Vantage Development, LLC, was represented by Jordan Whiteside, Project Manager, Zac Plumstead, Vice-President Vantage Management, and Jay Ronca, Vice-President Vantage Development. Investor representatives were Tiffany Kirk of Regions Bank and Kells Carroll and Laura Dodd of Sugar Creek Capitol. Mandy Mallicoat, Programs Director, represented the Chamber.

“The idea for all of this began around Jan. 15,” project manager Jordan Whiteside said. “We met with the city about it, applied for the low-income tax credit, got approved and began construction in Dec. 2016.”

The apartments are designed to be affordable. Customers, with the option to purchase units with different bed and bath counts, will never be charged for what they don’t need. Among the available floor plans, the prices range from $380 per month for 767-square feet units to $515 a month for 1456 square feet units. Properties are leased for 12 months, but the Vinings have set forth income qualifications. Prices and availability are subject to change without notice.

One person leasing a unit must make at least $20,640.00; six people leasing a unit must make a total of $34,200. There are in-betweens, but the mandatory income stays be- tween these two figures.

“The goal is to provide affordable housing for those in the area,” Whiteside said. “So many people travel here from places like Rome, and they wouldn’t have to commute if there were available, affordable housing.”

Housing applications are still being accepted on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Application fees are typically $30 but costs are sometimes waved. Those interested can visit the townhouse’s welcome center or call 678-901-4976 for more information. The Polk County Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit organization designed to increase economic growth in the community.
